Managing Career Transitions – Career Pivoting for Seasoned Marketers

It is common for early career professionals to pivot their focus and direction at least once, but what about the more established marketers? When you’ve created a name and a personal brand for yourself in a certain area of the field, making a major change in the same industry – or trying something completely different – requires a little more thought. You are in a different stage of life with different responsibilities. A major change (or even a moderate change) holds more risk.

Our speaker, David Bernardino will lead a discussion about making mid-career transitions. Based on his own experience going first from CPG to B2B marketing, and then from the client side to the start-up agency world, he will walk through his experience dealing with these transitions. Bernardino will highlight tips and techniques that he’s learned during a long career in the marketing world.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Discuss how to think about mid-career pivots
  2. Discuss ways to approach a mid-career pivot, including potential resources to aid in the development of your own plan.

Speaker Bio

David is the Chief Client Officer and Head of Research + Planning at Ammunition, an Atlanta-based full service advertising agency specializing in demand generation and lead cultivation. In his role, he leads all business development, along with helping clients with the development of insights, strategies, and plans to grow their businesses.

Prior to joining Ammunition, he led Samsung’s home appliance builder marketing team, developing the marketing strategies and campaigns that introduced that brand to the home building industry. He’s also had prior experience running brands at companies ranging from P&G to Merck.

David is a NKBA “Sales + Marketing Specialist” badge holder and a 2013 Brand Innovator’s “40 Under 40” honoree. He also serves in a wide variety of leadership roles at the NAHB, the Metropolitan Builders & Contractors Association of New Jersey, and the American Marketing Association’s New Jersey chapter. Finally, he is an Advisory Board Member of The Free Spirits Company.
