AMA Lincoln and Lincoln Young Professionals Group (YPG) are proud to present and facilitate an open competition aimed at creating a new design for Lincoln’s official city flag. Have a design option in mind? Check out the creative brief and contest rules below to get started. The top three flag designs will be submitted to the Lincoln City Council for their consideration and possible adoption.
Lincoln’s flag needs a new look. ↓
Lincoln’s current flag was adopted in 1932. It has represented the city that we call home for nearly ninety years, and it has flown honorably. But Lincoln is poised for a bright future, and it needs a flag that can rise to the challenge.
Cities need great flags.
Hear from one of our favorite flag enthusiasts, Keil Wilson (pronounced like “Kyle”), who spoke at Ignite Lincoln in 2019 on why LNK is overdue for a new city flag.
Here’s how the contest works.
Anyone can submit a flag design at the form below, as long as they have ties to the state of Nebraska. All flag designs are due on or before August 1st, 2021. Once the flag designs have been received, a diverse committee of representatives from the Lincoln community will select three designs to be shared publicly. First round winners will be announced in August, at which point the committee will reconvene to evaluate the final three flag submissions and their adherence to the creative brief and contest rules. In September, a final design will be selected but will be subject to alteration. The finalists will receive a cash prize and the final design will be submitted to the Lincoln City Council for possible adoption.
You’ll need these to get started.
This document is the “why” behind the project, with creative direction, specifications, and information that might help your design take the grand prize. Adhere as closely as possible to the brief for the best chance to win.
Refer to these rules for the big picture, and for some helpful information on timing and protocol.
Thank you, sponsors.
AMA Lincoln and Lincoln Young Professionals Group would like to thank our sponsors for their contributions in this effort. We are delighted to partner with each of these dedicated Lincoln businesses in our mission to bring a fresh and and unifying design to the city’s flag.
Submit your design here.
The flag design entry must be submitted either as a 3 x 5-inch drawing or a JPG/PDF/Vector image that can be enlarged to fit a standard 3 x 5-inch ratio. In addition to a flag design, Artists are encouraged to include 3 examples of how the design could be applied to promotional materials (e.g., a t-shirt, water bottle, or key chain).
Need a refresher on the design criteria? Check out the creative brief.
