We will be volunteering as Parade Staff keeping the parade pace and providing navigation for floats.  \nVolunteers will receive a t-shirt from Star City Pride and a complimentary wristband to the remainder of the festival (festival schedule TBD).  \nVolunteer sign up ends on Monday\, June 5. \n \nWhen? Saturday\, June 10 from 8:15 am to 11:30 pm \nWhere? Parade route is around the Nebraska State Capital building – meeting site TBD \n \nBy registering to volunteer\, you express your understanding and intent to enter into Star City Pride’s Release and Waiver of Liability (see below) knowingly and voluntarily. \n \nVOLUNTEER RELEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY FORM \nI\, the above named Volunteer\, do hereby give my consent to participation in all activities of Star City Pride. The Volunteer understands that the scope of the Volunteer’s relationship with Star City Pride is limited to a volunteer position and that no compensation is expected in return for services provided by Volunteer; and that Star City Pride will not provide any benefits traditionally associated with employment to Volunteer. The Volunteer desires that the Volunteer engage in activities related to serving or participating in the Star City Pride’s activities as a player\, participant or volunteer. The Volunteer is responsible for the Volunteer’s own insurance coverage in the event of personal injury or illness as a result of participation in activities of the Star City Pride. \n1. DHHS is the largest state agency in Nebraska with a budget of approximately $3.5 billion under the direction of CEO Dannette R. Smith. The Department has five major divisions: Behavioral Health\, Children and Family Services\, Developmental Disabilities\, Medicaid Long-Term Care and Public Health. As Chief of Staff\, LeGrand provides strategic leadership and employs multifaceted communications strategy to support these divisions and executive leadership. She often collaborates with the Governor’s administrative team. \nPassionate about sharing impactful stories and effective communication\, LeGrand joined the Department in 2019 as Director of Communications and was the lead spokesperson for the Department. She oversaw a team comprised of public information officers and a digital team.

It is not secret that the US is more polarized and connecting with each other has become increasingly difficult. Marketing professionals can play an important role in bridging differences and building relationships through inclusive messaging\, equitable practice and decision making\, and capturing diverse perspectives. \nThese approaches call for a leadership approach that not only understands the fundamentals of equity\, diversity\, and inclusion\, but also applies a more equity-minded and critical lens that goes beyond checklists. This presentation provides key terms and strategies marketing professionals can utilize to incorporate DEI in their approaches from forming the right team to developing the most inclusive content. \nKey Learning Takeaways \n\nDeveloping an eye for equity in marketing\nHow to be a more inclusive professional and leader\nRecognizing the power of marketing in bridging differences\n\nSpeaker Bio \nMarco Barker serves as the inaugural vice chancellor for diversity and inclusion at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In this capacity\, he serves as the University’s chief diversity officer. Prior to UNL he served as chief diversity officer at Westminster College in Salt Lake City.  \nWith over 15 years of experience as a diversity\, equity\, and inclusion professional\, Barker is founder and associate for Barker Diversity Consulting\, a diversity strategic leadership firm. He has been selected as a Utah Forty Under 40 and currently serves on the Lincoln Community Foundation Board.  \nBarker earned his B.S. in industrial engineering from the University of Arkansas\, an MBA from Webster University\, and Ph.D. in educational leadership and research from Louisiana State University.
