SUMMARY:Small Business and Freelancer Round Table with Jhey Photo
DESCRIPTION:Jhey Photo shares the journey of turning her passion into a full-time business\, including challenges\, lessons\, and strategies for success.\n\n\nIt wasn’t until about eight years into her journey with Jhey Photo that Jennifer Heywood began to see her work for what it was—a business. At that point\, she focused on creating processes\, growing her clientele\, and working toward going full-time\, which she achieved in January 2021. While this growth may seem organic and effortless\, it came with its fair share of challenges. Sleepless nights\, long weekends missing out on social activities\, and the pursuit of a master’s degree all contributed to building a thriving business—but it wasn’t easy. \nIn this roundtable\, you’ll discuss: \n\nthe struggle of being your own boss and only coworker\nsetting boundaries & work/life balance\nhow to find clients and retain clients\nhow to set up processes to run a successful business\ncreating your personal brand\nhow to wear all the hats (accounting\, HR\, marketing\, CEO\, COO\, etc.)\n\n \nNote: This is a casual discussion so bring your thoughts\, advice and questions! This event has limited spots so register early! \n \nBio: \nJennifer Heywood was born and raised in Lincoln and attended Lincoln East High School where she first picked up a camera. She then attended Nebraska Wesleyan where she received her degree in Art & Communication. After working in marketing for six years and graduating with an MBA\, she left the corporate lifestyle to work on her photography business (Jhey Photo) full time. Throughout her journey of being a business owner and photographer\, she has learned a lot of lessons that she enjoys sharing with others who are earlier in their journey. Her favorite part of her job is sharing important moments with her clients; getting engaged and married\, adding to the family\, celebrating another year gone by\, opening a business\, etc. In her free time\, she enjoys playing tennis\, traveling and being a mom to her cat\, Joey. \n \nParking Information: \nMetered street parking and garage parking are available around Union Bank Place.

SUMMARY:Skill School: “What I’d Tell My Past Self Right After College” Panel
DESCRIPTION:Gain insights from rising marketing pros at AMA Lincoln’s Skill School panel—essential advice for young professionals starting careers.\n\n\nJoin us for an insightful AMA Lincoln Skill School panel\, where up-and-coming marketing experts will share first-hand advice for those just starting their careers. This panel-style event is geared toward young professionals\, especially those in college or recently graduated. If you’re a manager in advertising\, marketing\, or PR\, this is a great professional development opportunity for your younger team members! \n  \nAbout the Panel:\nThis panel features rising marketing professionals across social media\, PR\, design\, web strategy\, and more\, sharing insights for early-career success. \nCatherine Knopik \nCatherine Knopik\, a Nebraska native\, graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2018 with a degree in Advertising and Public Relations and minors in Business and Fashion. She gained diverse experience through internships in fashion and marketing in Lincoln\, New York\, and London. \nAfter graduation\, Catherine worked as a digital advertising strategist for the Omaha World-Herald. She then moved to South Korea in 2019 before returning to Lincoln in 2020 to join the FinTech industry. Catherine now works as an advertising consultant at Nymbus\, helping banks and credit unions launch online banking brands. She also serves as VP of Special Events on the AMA Lincoln board. \nErica Sesay \nErica Sesay is the Associate Director of Communications at the Buffett Early Childhood Institute\, overseeing event and project management\, internal communications\, database management\, and media relations. She joined the Institute in 2021 as a Public Outreach Communications Specialist. Previously\, she worked for five years in the Nebraska Athletic Department and interned with the Los Angeles Chargers and the Wisconsin Athletic Department. \nA proud native of Stoughton\, Wisconsin\, Sesay earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln\, where she double majored in broadcasting and advertising and public relations\, with minors in theater and Spanish. She also holds an MBA from UNL. \nCassie Gowen \nCassie Gowen is a Senior Project Manager at Swanson Russell. She earned a bachelor’s degree in advertising from UNL in 2012. \nPrior to Swanson Russell\, Hansen spent seven years as a marketing manager at Nelnet where she directed corporate marketing strategies and initiatives.
