Position Description

Our rapidly-expanding company is seeking a WordPress Developer to join our team in either a full-time or contracted capacity to help level-up our web discipline with technical expertise in backend development and systems management. As the technical lead on web development, you will advise on, execute and implement web-based products focused on uniting client vision with creative strategy to achieve client goals according to stakeholder specifications. You will also be our internal team’s go-to resource for web expertise and the development of best practices within the web discipline.

This person would work directly with the creative team and report to the Creative Director, in order to develop, test, publish and maintain websites with thoughtful and functional design and performance according to stakeholder specifications.

Position responsibilities include:

  • Serve as lead developer on standalone web-based projects and retainers, creating custom-coded websites built on WordPress, including back-end theme and plugin development

  • Collaborate with and provide technical guidance to our creative team
  • Work closely with our Creative Director to develop a thorough understanding of assigned projects and tasks, and liaise on behalf of the web team regarding work progress and task assignments
  • Embed in our creative process by disseminating client needs and technical specifications, engaging in technical solutions discovery, information architecture, wireframing and prototyping, and conducting quality assurance and testing on project deliverables
  • Ensure the technical feasibility and performance of UI/UX designs, with an emphasis on cross-platform compatibility and accessibility standards (e.g., ADA, Core Web Vitals, Page Speed)
  • Participate in regular website maintenance, including performance testing, caching, patching, and code optimization
  • Work with the Creative Director to develop internal web standards, including component libraries, grid systems, SEO baselines, and project roadmaps
  • Audit and maintain our current array of WordPress plugins, and be prepared to gatekeep and advocate for future plugin investment
  • Manage installation and deployment of plugins, feature additions, WordPress upgrades, and security fixes within systems to ensure production readiness
  • Regularly consult Account Managers to ensure work meets project requirements before sharing with the client
  • Train clients and/or internal team on how to manage and maintain websites


The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • 2+ years of web development experience using WordPress or similar PHP-based content management systems, including experience creating custom themes or plugins
  • Demonstrable technical experience using HTML 5, CSS 3, and Javascript
  • Understanding of…

    • Search engine optimization (SEO) practices
    • Network diagnostics and analytical tools
  • Familiarity with Elementor (visual theme/page builder), Figma (design/prototyping)
  • Experience working at an agency and/or on digital campaigns

  • Full-time starting salary range for this role: $65-85k, dependent on industry experience
  • Part-time starting rate for this role: $30/hr, dependent on industry experience & hourly commitment
