As our Senior Search Engine Marketing (SEM) Specialist, you will assist in fulfilling our customers’ passions by getting the right advertisements and products in front of the right people through the use of customer-match audiences, behavioral remarketing lists, geotargeting, ad schedules, compelling ad text, and testing to identify the most effective landing pages.

Job overview

The Senior SEM Specialist will work closely with the SEM Manager to generate new campaigns and ad groups around upcoming product lines, brands, and markets. Speedway Motors employs shopping, text ad, dynamic text ad, remarketing, and YouTube campaigns to engage with our customers across all major ad networks.

The Senior SEM Specialist will independently manage large subsets of our accounts. The ideal candidate will be able to quickly come in and oversee all aspects of each campaign-type while maintaining, or exceeding, existing ROAS goals. They should be able to operate independently and generate their own workflow, but also be eager and willing to collaborate with the rest of our team and other departments.

We run large accounts with hundreds of campaigns, thousands of ads, and an ever-growing product assortment, so the ability to multitask and stay organized is a must. However, despite the maturity of our SEM accounts, there is ample opportunity for growth and to make your presence felt.

We are not simply looking to maintain the status quo with this department and role. We are constantly striving to not only grow revenue, but to do so in more profitable ways. We want you to discover new approaches to impactfully interact with, and assist, our customers along their sales journey and feel empowered to test different strategies and take some calculated risks while doing so.

As the Senior SEM Specialist, the satisfaction that comes with building a new campaign and seeing a conversion the very next morning, the tweak you made to ad copy that increased CTR, or the negative keyword you added that vastly improved ROAS should excite you. We also expect you to be up to date on everything in the SEM world such as the latest product Google is sunsetting (or the most recent time Microsoft blatantly copied a Google feature), upcoming tracking/privacy changes, and updates to existing ad-types that we can capitalize on.

You, as the Senior Specialist, will be an essential part of that growth going forward, and will primed for additional opportunity and advancement as our company continues to evolve.


Here are the specifics:

  • You will be independently managing bid, budget, and return on ad spend goals for large subsets of our campaigns, or even an entire account.
  • You will identify opportunities and fully execute the creation of new campaigns and ad groups to increase the company’s reach and SEM revenue.
  • You will eliminate bad or inefficient spend through negative keyword work, bid adjustments, updating ad copy/sitelinks, testing new landing pages, and teaming-up with other departments to develop entirely redesigned landing pages when an opportunity warrants collaboration.
  • You will analyze, report on, and assist in presenting the results to department heads and company leadership.
  • You will stay abreast of the latest industry trends and collaborate with the SEM Manager to evaluate new opportunities, test new campaign or ad types, and have a hand in strategizing when those announcements dictate large-scale account changes.
  • Constantly work to improve processes; make suggestions for productivity improvements, and optimize employee workflow, while continuing to meet our customers’ needs.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.

Work Environment

In March of 2020, we moved the majority of our office roles to work-from-home full time to protect our workforce and their families.

In an effort to keep our Speedway family safe we have implemented safety measures including PPE, temp checks and rigorous cleaning schedules for those that are working on campus. We’ve also implemented safety measures including working from home for those that are able.

Remote work opportunities can be performed in these states: Nebraska, Arizona, West Virginia, Indiana, Wisconsin, Texas, Ohio, Nevada, Florida, and Kansas.


What you’ll need to succeed in this position:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Advertising, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in paid search marketing, analytics, and optimization.
  • In-depth knowledge of both the Google Ads and Microsoft Ads platforms.
  • Proficiency in creating and managing shopping ads, text ads, dynamic text ads, dynamic product remarketing ads, and banner-ad display campaigns.
  • Prior experience managing, or working in, accounts with spend of at least $1M.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks day-to-day while also capable of collaborating with team members and other departments on large-scale projects.
  • Automotive knowledge not a requirement but is an extreme bonus. If you have no previous knowledge, you will be surrounded by experts who can help, but it will require more attention to detail from you to ensure there are no technical errors.
