Communications Specialist – Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute

The Communications Specialist is responsible for identifying, reporting, writing, editing and publicizing communications materials for the Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute (DWFI) at the University of Nebraska. This position plays a key role in the strategic communication of DWFI’s mission and accomplishments and is responsible for creating much of the institute’s communications content. Strategizes and manages the institute’s social media accounts. The Communications Specialist reports to the Director of Communications and Public Relations, and works closely with the Web Developer/Graphic Design Specialist, the Events Coordinator and the Public Relations and Engagement Coordinator within the Nebraska Water Center (NWC), forming the core communications team for DWFI.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communications or closely related field plus three years of experience in production of print and web publications and the use of social media in communications
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and copy-editing skills
  • Ability to work with research and program staff to make complex issues understandable to a wide variety of audiences
  • Skilled in the use of social media for communication
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects, work collaboratively across an organization, and show initiative in solving problems
  • Familiarity with a university environment
