Communications and Events Specialist – University of Nebraska College of Law

The new (launching fall 2020) Nebraska Governance and Technology Center at the University of Nebraska College of Law, located in Lincoln, Nebraska, is seeking candidates for the position of Communications and Events Specialist. This position is responsible for marketing and communications, including website updates, design and aiding in the drafting of news articles and event reports, social media, press releases, and general public relations. The selected individual will work directly with Law College and University Communications marketing teams to position the Center for maximum exposure and within the University branding parameters. Additionally, this position will coordinate research events, workshops, luncheons, and conferences. Event coordination tasks range from invitations, site booking, catering arrangements and meal planning, materials, promotion, and general logistics. This may include representing the Center at local, regional, and national events. The Communications and Events Specialist will interact with prospective and current students, staff, faculty, alumni and community members. Some additional event planning support may be delegated to the Space, Cyber, and Telecommunications law team. This position directly reports to Executive Director of Technology, Security, and Space Law Initiatives.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills necessary to successfully interact with prospective and current students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community members. Ability to work within a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Independent judgment and application of established policies and procedures.

Proficiency with basic computer programs, including normal office programs i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software. HTML and/or Drupal experience. Proficiency working in InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and comfortable working in other Adobe Creative Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:
Ideal candidate will have five (5) + year’s professional experience in any combination of: marketing, communications, public relations and/or professional event planning/coordination. Photography and visual design skills. Demonstrated progressive leadership in marketing, communications, public relations, design or event planning. Knowledge of emerging technology and security practices.
